Alberta Clean Technology Sector Report
Published in 2019
Alberta is increasingly recognized by global investors as a launchpad for clean tech businesses that can beat others to the US$3.8 Trillion dollar economic opportunity in meeting growing needs for energy, food and other resources at lower cost and with less emissions and waste.
ACTia has partnered with MaRS Data Catalyst and JWN Energy to produce this 2019 review of the growth and successes of the province’s clean technology innovators since our baseline study in 2016. The report documents an emerging sector attracting global attention, with Calgary rated one of the world’s top 15 clean tech ecosystems by San Francisco’s Startup Genome in 2019[1].
Framed by a foreword by noted investors and thought leaders Peter Tertzakian and Jackie Forrest of ARC Energy Research Institute, and featuring the results of a detailed survey of over 70 of the province’s 200+ clean tech venture CEOs, along with over a dozen brief “success anecdotes”, the report highlights the province’s emerging strengths in delivering innovation in oil and gas, electricity and food and agriculture, improving the competitiveness of Alberta’s leading economic sectors and companies while exporting solutions to the world.
