If you didn’t see that April payment hit your account, the CRA says there’s still time to claim your carbon tax rebate.
Many Canadians are still wondering: Where is my carbon tax rebate? If the final Canada Carbon Rebate didn’t show up in your bank account this spring, you’re not alone — but there’s good news. You may still be eligible for hundreds of dollars in Canadian money, even though the carbon tax rebate program officially ended in April 2025.
Here’s what you need to know about why you may have missed the final Canada Carbon Rebate, who’s still eligible, and most importantly, how to get it now if you haven’t yet.

What Happened to the Canada Carbon Rebate?
The Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) was a quarterly federal payment delivered to residents in provinces without their own carbon pricing systems. It returned the proceeds of the federal fuel charge directly to households.
But on April 1, 2025, the federal carbon pricing program was scrapped — and with it, the CCR ended too.
The final carbon tax rebate went out on April 22, 2025, covering the last eligible benefit period. But to get that payment, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) required you to file your 2024 tax return by April 2, 2025.
If you didn’t file your taxes in time — or haven’t filed them at all yet — that could explain why the money never landed.

Didn’t File Taxes by April 2? You Can Still Get Paid
If you filed your return after the April 2 deadline, you haven’t lost your money — you’ll just have to wait a bit longer.
According to the CRA, eligible individuals who file late can still receive the final Canada Carbon Rebate. Once your 2024 return is processed and assessed, your payment will be sent within six to eight weeks.
Still haven’t filed? The CRA encourages Canadians to submit their returns as soon as possible. You’ll still receive the rebate — even retroactively — as long as you were eligible during the benefit period.

How Much Money Could You Get?
The rebate amounts varied depending on your province and household size. Unlike other federal benefits, your income didn’t affect the payment — everyone who met the residency criteria in eligible provinces qualified for the full amount.
Here are the base amounts paid out in April 2025 for a single adult and a family of four:
| Province | Single Adult | Family of Four |
|---|---|---|
| Alberta | $228 | $456 |
| Saskatchewan | $206 | $412 |
| Ontario | $151 | $302 |
| Manitoba | $150 | $300 |
| New Brunswick | $165 | $330 |
| Newfoundland & Labrador | $149 | $298 |
| Nova Scotia | $110 | $220 |
| Prince Edward Island | $110 | $220 |
Rural residents in most provinces received a 20% top-up, except in P.E.I., where the rural supplement was already included.

How to Get Your Canada Carbon Rebate Now
Step 1: File Your 2024 Tax Return
If you haven’t done this yet, it’s your most important step. Filing triggers your eligibility for the rebate, even though the program has ended.
Step 2: Wait for CRA to Process Your Return
Once submitted, expect to wait 6 to 8 weeks for your payment. If your return was recently filed, the money could be on its way soon.
Step 3: Watch Your Bank or CRA MyAccount
The CRA will deposit the final CCR payment directly into your bank account if you’ve set up direct deposit. If not, expect a mailed cheque.
Don’t Miss Out on This Final Federal Rebate
While the Canada Carbon Rebate is officially over, it’s not too late to get what you’re owed. If you missed the payment in April due to a late tax filing, you can still receive the money — possibly hundreds of dollars — from the CRA.
So if you’re still empty-handed, don’t panic. File your taxes, check your CRA account, and make sure your payment details are up to date.
